Infectious Melody: A Song to Sway Away

We’re promised the stars and moon
We swoon to every word sung
It’s what we’ve wanted to hear
What’s haunting is the fear
A web of deceit has been spun
We’re captured by the tune
How naive to believe
Somehow we’d be immune

Falling to a tempter’s calling
The infectious melody
Courses through our veins
Every hour it devours
Any discretion that remains

These are signs of the times

We minimize lies
Defend the indefensible
What was once reprehensible
It’s now acceptable
We’re willing and able
We’ll do and say anything
For a seat at the table

Yet, it’s not hopeless

There’s a cure for our sickness
Proven through the ages
A song of deliverance
It’ll free us from the cages

We must be repentant
Admit we’ve been distant
Dependent on another
Instead of the Lover of our souls
Let’s confess we’ve sinned
Then run back to Him
We have to concede
Jesus is all we need

“Finally, I confessed all my sins to You and stopped trying to hide my guilt. I said to myself, ‘I will confess my rebellion to the Lord.’ And You forgave me! All my guilt is gone. Therefore, let all the godly pray to You while there is still time, that they may not drown in the floodwaters of judgment. For You are my hiding place; You protect me from trouble. You surround me with songs of victory.” — Psalms‬ ‭32‬:‭5‬-‭7‬
