I’m angry and heartbroken about what’s occurring in Afghanistan. Two decades of freedom have been taken away in a matter of days, as the Taliban regime has quickly reasserted itself there. My heart particularly goes out to Afghan women and girls. They stare at the prospect of losing the equality they’ve enjoyed.
I do agree with President Biden’s decision to remove troops from Afghanistan. U.S. soldiers have sacrificed so much already to defend their citizens against Taliban rule.
Afghan leaders have had more than an adequate amount of time to develop a strategy to defend themselves. After 20 years of an American military presence, there would’ve never been an ideal time for the pullout of troops there.
That said, President Biden and his administration could have developed a far more effective logistical plan for withdrawal. Rather than an immediate removal, I would have favored a more staggered approach. This failure rests solely on President Biden’s shoulders, and he must do everything possible to salvage this.
Therefore, I pray that God will give President Biden and Afghan leaders wisdom and for God’s protection over the Afghan people.
