Life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness
They’re what we’ve been promised
Freedom to do we what we want
Freedom to say what’s in our hearts
Where other areas are plagued with hysteria
I’m blessed to be here in America
We’re told with work and sacrifice
We can achieve anything in life
And no matter where we live
Everyone has something to give
Yet as I think about where we are
And the progress we’ve made so far
Something has gone asunder
And it causes me to wonder
When will that day become real?
When will we really live up to that ideal?
How can we achieve justice and equity
When have a “just us” mentality?
We compromise our integrity
With unethical deals behind the scenes
Thinking the end justifies the means
We send the upright to the slaughter
And make the vile heroes and martyrs
Jesus, this is what I see
So, I come on bended knee
Asking You for liberty
We’re slaves to the belief
We can change our condition
Through laws, power, and ambition
All You want are humility and contrition
Lord and Lover of this land
We look to You and open our hands
When we’re prone to wander
Revive us with Your awe and wonder
Change our scope of salvation
You’re the only hope for this nation
You alone can save
Make us free and make us brave
